Plumetis embroidery, an ancient fabric for 2020 brides
I’m going to tell you a secret—although I don’t think I’ll reveal anything you don’t already know—when I think of a bride, the first image that comes to mind is a plumeti dress, or “dotted,” as you prefer to call this embroidered tulle. It’s inevitable; plumeti exudes something magical that fascinates us all.
But what is it about this fabric that we like so much?
Of course, the fact that it’s such an ancient technique that has survived the test of time is remarkable. Its origin alone exudes exoticism; the invention of Plumeti dates back to the 5th century in ancient Constantinople and other cities in Alexandria. The embroiderers of the time, true weaving experts, applied threads called “lappet” to a cotton fabric, which were inserted into the loom in the form of decorative designs. Centuries later, the French adopted it and coined the name by which it is known today, “broderie au plumetis.”
Being such a delicate and artisanal technique, it provides a minimalist and simple touch that makes it the ideal fabric for making that garment that has to be magical, unique, and attractive – THE WEDDING DRESS.
In the new designs of Ana Faustino Atellier’s 2020 bridal collection, we’ve incorporated Plumeti tulle. Our fabrics feature delicate embroidery that can be applied to different colors and garments. Plus, this millimeter-dotted fabric is a marvel to touch or feel against your skin.
We invite you to our atelier to discover the new 2020 models. They are sure to make you experience the ancient magic that surrounds the delicacy and elegance of Plumeti.
